October marks Mental Health Awareness Month, making it the perfect time to explore the critical intersection of mental health and mediation practice. This interactive webinar addresses two essential dimensions: maintaining mediator wellness and effectively supporting participants who bring mental health challenges to the mediation table.
Mediators gain evidence-based strategies for sustaining their own resilience while developing greater awareness of how mental health factors influence conflict dynamics and resolution preferences. Through practical exercises and real-world applications, participants will enhance both their professional effectiveness and personal well-being.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
  1. Implement at least three evidence-based mental health hygiene practices to maintain mediator resilience and prevent burnout
  2. Identify common mental health presentations that may influence a party's approach to conflict and preference for litigation versus mediation
  3. Apply trauma-informed and mental health-aware techniques to create safer, more effective mediation environments (without being a psychologist!)
  4. Develop personal mindfulness practices to enhance your personal presence and ability to engage in emotional regulation during challenging mediations
  5. Recognize when and how to make appropriate referrals, OR interrupt the mediation process, while maintaining professional boundaries
  6. Utilize specific communication strategies that accommodate diverse mental health needs without overstepping the scope of practice as a Mediator.
