While you and yours were at the Thanksgiving table, we were busy putting together our December Topic:Does Evaluation have a Place at the Mediation Table?:Facilitation vs Evaluation.
The Westside PDG will meet on December 10, 2024 at 6:00pm via Zoom. As we are often told that evaluation has no place in mediation, Patrick Yoergler will head a roundtable discussion whether mediation is even effective and expedient without it. Join us as we explore this controversial subject at the intersection of sound theory and responsible practice.
Patrick Yoergler (rhymes with burglar) is a professional communication specialist who has written for nonprofit organizations as diverse as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, National Easter Seals, L.A. Opera, and City of Hope. Patrick currently mediates small claims and civil harassment cases as a volunteer in the L.A. County Superior Court system through the Center for Conflict Resolution (CCR). His mediation certification dates to 2016, when he trained in Centinela Youth Services’ (CYS’s) Restorative Justice and Family mediation programs. He mediated with CYS as a volunteer for three years before joining the organization as a part-time trainer and communication specialist and volunteer and community outreach coordinator, positions he held for three years. Patrick has a B.A. in Psychology from UCLA. His abiding interests include comparative literature and developmental psychology, and his passions and practices include modern poetry and the Baroque keyboard repertoire.
Attached you will find “The Top Ten Reasons Why Mediators Should Not Evaluate” by Lela P. Love, published in 1997 in the Florida State University Law Review as some food for thought before we get into the topic.
We hope you can make it!
Best wishes, Aurenne
