Join the Making Money as a Mediator Professional Development Group at a special night and time, 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2024, as we talk with Alyson Carrel, clinical professor at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, Co-Director of the Center on Negotiation, Mediation and Restorative Justice at Northwestern, and founder of the blog “ADR as 1st Career.” Ms. Carrell will share her experience in forming her first career in Alternative Dispute Resolution and the inspiration behind her blog. She will also reflect on her experiences in documenting the stories of those who have 1st careers in ADR and share how the lessons learned can also apply to those of us with 2nd or 3rd careers in dispute resolution.

Alyson Carrel is a clinical professor at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law and Co-Director of the law school’s nationally ranked Center on Negotiation, Mediation, and Restorative Justice. Until 2019, she led the law school’s legal technology & innovation initiatives as the inaugural Assistant Dean of Law & Technology. Prior to that, Carrel was the Training Director at the Center for Conflict Resolution, where she directed and lectured in the 40-hour mediation skills training and mediated court-referred cases. Carrel is a tech curious legal educator and mediator who seeks to understand how technology and innovation are changing the practice of dispute resolution. She developed the Delta Model, a competency model that visualizes the holistic set of skills necessary to succeed as a 21st-century legal professional and started a video blog called ADR as 1st Career to celebrate the success stories of individuals like her who launched a career in dispute resolution prior to establishing a career in a different profession beforehand.
