Have you ever had an unexpected situation happen when mediating and wondered, “How did that happen?” It could be a sudden attitude shift or a frustrating impasse. After the mediation, we often celebrate a triumph or lament a failure, but then move on to our next case. What if we used these puzzling moments to become more effective, resilient, and resourceful? We do just that in case consultation groups using the Reflective Practice method developed by Reflective Practice Institute founders Michael Lang and Susan Terry. Please join Reflective Practice Institute Associates, Ellen Waldorf and Laurie Amaya, who will present an interactive talk on Reflective Practice showing us the benefits we can gain from participating in a Reflective Practice Group. Laurie and Ellen will be seeking one person to volunteer during the presentation to explore an experience during a mediation that was puzzling or surprising to them. Maybe it was frustrating, perplexing, difficult, or even successful and the person wasn’t sure what led to the success.If you are willing to volunteer, please reply to this email by November 9th, 2023. You do not need to let us know in advance any details of the experience. Laurie Amaya Laurie Amaya is a family law mediator, consulting, and collaborative attorney in Pasadena and a member of SCMA. She is an APFM Certified Advanced Practitioner, APFM Senior Mediator, and aMediate.comCertified Senior Mediator. Laurie is an associate of the Reflective Practice Institute and a Certified Reflective Practice facilitator. She facilitates multiple Reflective Practice Groups with members worldwide. Ellen Waldorf, Esq. Ellen Waldorf, Esq., has more than 20 years of experience mediating hundreds of cases including divorce, family, probate, and business issues in Massachusetts. Ellen teaches professionals to become divorce mediators and trains leaders and employees on how to manage miscommunication and conflict in the workplace. Ellen is a Reflective Practice Institute Associate who facilitates multiple Reflective Practice Groups as well as teaches Reflective Practice when training new mediators.
