Dear fellow SCMA members,
It's our great pleasure to announce that for our July meeting, the Westside PDG will be hosting Anne Buchanan, who'll be leading a discussion about restorative justice.
Anne brings together a unique combination of conflict resolution and restorative justice principles and practices to support those seeking a better way to work through harm and conflict. Working with faith-based communities, higher education and schools, and various community groups, her practice is based on the belief that repairing and building healthy relationships should be the primary focus for finding transformative solutions to conflict. Her work is rooted in Peacemaking Circles, an indigenous process designed to address the underlying influences that are harming people, families, and groups of people within our communities. Her recent work includes a Restorative Mediation Circle project, Racial Understanding Circle pilot project and Circles focused on implicit bias and bereavement. To learn more, visit her website at https://www.croirestorativedialogue.com.
In July of 2018, Anne spent two weeks learning the practice of restorative justice peacemaking circles as a Restorative Justice Intern in Yellow Medicine County (YMC), Minnesota. She'll be sharing with us her journey to and practice of restorative justice, including her experience with Circle Sentencing as part of the YMC restorative justice program. You can learn more by reading her blog (https://www.croirestorativedialogue.com/blog) and article (attached) which was published last year in the Contemporary Justice Review.
It's sure to be a very informative and thought-provoking evening.
