The power of weakness. It's common to think one needs leverage in negotiations, e.g., money, time, and authority. Little attention is paid to the power of weakness. Yet, weakness can be powerful. Asians are an often unseen numeric minority in the U.S. but the killings in Atlanta and the rise in anti-Asian hate has propelled the vulnerability of Asians to the front pages in a manner not seen in the past. The killing of a helpless George Floyd sparked world-wide protests and reassessments of our racial biases. How does this happen? What were the necessary elements for this shift? Westside PDG Co-leader Sid Kanazawa will lead a discussion of how weakness can be transformed into strength and how this phenomenon can surface in mediations. Negotiating from weakness has been a common theme for most of his personal and professional life.
Please bring your thoughts and experiences and use the meeting as an opportunity to discuss this timely topic.
