On November 10, the Westside PDG will be hosting Johanna Harris who'll be leading a very important and timely discussion on mediating employment disputes that arise because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Johanna will focus on five basic types of disputes: 1) An employer who wants an employee to return to work but the employee feels it is not safe; 2) An employee who agrees it is safe to return to work but who wants to continue to work off site; 3) An employee who wants to return to work but believes the actions the employer is taking are violations of his privacy and individual rights; 4) An employee who is out of work and the employer does not want to pay her; 5) An employee wants to work but the employer terminates her.
Johanna was an employment and discrimination attorney for 40 years and a Commissioner of the Providence Board of Licenses for three years. She is the author of Use Protection: An Employee's Guide to Advancement in the Workplace and Providence Rules: The Unwritten Story of Corruption in Providence. She has been on the board or the chair of the board of numerous nonprofits in the arts, historic preservation, civil rights and childhood trauma. Before Covid-19, she was a mediator with the EEOC and Center for Conflict Resolution. Currently she is a mediator with the Southern California Family Mediation and the President of Hire,Fire and Retire, a consulting firm.
We'll also be discussing the annual SCMA conference, which will be this Saturday, November 7.
