Webinar - Coronavirus Claims in the Workplace

"Coronavirus Claims in the Workplace - What Mediators Need to Know to be Effective in Resolving Cases"

Covid-19 has completely disrupted workplaces. Many employees are afraid to return to work, employers and human resources professionals have had to learn to cope on the fly, and even seasoned employment lawyers struggle to keep up with the fast-changing regulations and guidance.  Covid-19 related claims are already the subject of demand letters and lawsuits and are likely to constitute the next wave of employment cases.

Join Carol Gefis, Esq., as she brings us up to date on recent trends employees and employers face as they struggle with the new norms in the workplace and provides us with a framework for mediators to use when helping the parties to reach a resolution.

About the Speaker

Carol Gefis, Esq.

The best thing about being a lawyer is partnering with clients and helping them manage their business and their workforce so that they are confident in their team, their policies, and their decisions. Whether it is answering a question about a particular employment situation or defending a lawsuit, working as a team with my clients is what drives me.

I have been in practice for 30 years and have seen labor and employment laws and litigation evolve a great deal over that time. The current Coronavirus pandemic has accelerated the learning curve and I am proud that I, along with my firm, serve as a leader in Covid-19 pandemic related work issues. Having the support of a great firm of talented attorneys allows me and my colleagues to stay current as we advise our clients so they may confidently and effectively deal with the day to day challenges that arise in and with their workforce- whether those challenges arise during the hiring process or throughout the employment relationship, and no matter the subject matter.

I help my clients navigate complex wage and hour issues, manage difficult employees, and investigate internal complaints. I also advise them on formulating employment policies and contracts, drafting employee handbooks, and staying compliant when faced with employee hiring, terminations, and layoffs. My goal is to protect my clients' businesses and provide them with peace of mind knowing they have made well-informed decisions that they can back up if necessary.

Inevitably, even when employers do everything right some will still become embroiled in litigation. When that occurs, I am proud to zealously represent my clients in all phases and types of litigation including claims of wrongful termination, harassment, retaliation, disability, age, sex, and gender discrimination. Zealous representation includes knowing when it is in the client's best interests to settle a case versus taking a case to trial. Mediation is often a good alternative that is enhanced by the effective negotiation skills that I have honed over my 30-year career.
